من الثابت والمؤكد فى مختلف الاتجاهات والتيارات والمذاهب التى تعاملت مع قضايا فلسفة العلم ومناهج العلوم, هو أهمية المنهج العلمى وإن تعددت الرؤى إليه وتباينت. ضماناً لتطور العلم والفكر الإنسانى.
إلا أن الصدمة التى أوجدتها دعوة فيرابند النسبية لا يضاهيها فى القدر إلا ذلك الشأن من الذيوع الذى لاقته فى تلقيها.
لقد بهرت القلوب, واستمالت العقول, وكان لها من الصدى ما يجعل محاولة وجود دعوة أخرى للموضوعية, مهمة عسيرة للدرجة التى أصبح ترقبها ينتظر يوماً بعد يوم, مشوب بالتشكك والقنوت.
لذا كانت دعوة الموضوعية, كما جاءت عند آلان شالمرز, دعوة طال انتظارها.
وإذا كنا نقبل النسبية فى مجال الأخلاق أو الفلسفة, فمن الصعب علينا أن نقبلها فى مجال العلم. فهاهو فيرانبد يدافع عن السحر والتنجيم والأسطورة والحكمة الشعبية, ويهاجم المنهج العلمى بقواعده المتعارف عليها. وسوف يحاول هذا غالمبحث أن يشير إلى إسهاماته الثورية عن النسبية والشكية فى مجال العلم بعد أن ضرب بكل قواعد المنهج العلمى عرض الحائط وأعلن بكل جرأة أنه ضد المنهج, حيث إن تصوراته تذهب إلى إرجاع العلم إلى مواقع مجتمعية ومواقف أيدلوجية تسوى بين الاستدلال والشعار.
وسيبين هذا البحث أيضاً المصادر الصحيحة لفلسفة فيرابند, ويوضح كيف نبذ كل قوانين العقل والعقلانية وكل ما يقيد الحرية الإنسانية و وقوفه ضد كل المعايير التى يفرضها العلم والمنطق والأسس التى استند إليها فى تحليل ذلك, ومدى انفصال كتاباته فى فلسفة العلم عن غيرها من المجالات الحياتية الأخرى.
هذا من جانب أما الجانب الآخر من البحث فيتعلق بالنزعة المضادة لفيرابند. أعنى النزعة الموضوعية عند شالمرز, والتى تتعارض مع النزعة النسبية عند فيرابند, ولا ينفى هذا بعض النقاط التى التقيا فيها, بل يعترف بأن طريقه فى النظر إلى العلم تدين بقدر كبير لفيرابند.
