"رهن المحبسين" هذا هو اللقب الذي أطلقة "أو العلاء المعرى" على نفسه قبل الآخرين .. و" ابو العلاء" برغم هربه من الدنيا وغرورها وعدم ولعه أو سعيه لألوان متعها .. إكتسب شهرة ومكانة تليق به كمفكر وصاحب رؤية كما هو شاعر له مكانته، وأكثر أعماله شهرة هى "اللزوميات" التى ألزم فهيا نفسه بأشياء غير ملزمة إبتعد عنها شعراء عصره المحدثون. وهذه اللزوميات.. هي مادرات حوله الدراسة التى بين يدينا.. ففى هذا الكتاب يناقش الدكتور (إبراهيم الخولى) ثلاثة قضايا تتعلق بهذا العمل تناول كل منها فى فصل منفصل. فنجد القضية الأولى هى بحث فى إن كان هذا (اللزوم) غختراع (علانى) أم سبعة إليه آخرون، القضية الثانية هى محاولة لتفسير التكلف الذى كلف "أو العلاء" نفسه به، واخيراً القضية الثالثة هى أثر هذه الكلف على اللزوميات. وقد تميزت الدراسة بأسلوب يتصف بالجمال والتبسيط فى الوقت حيث ابتعد المؤلف عن العقيد ونجح فى توصيل قصيده إلى القارئ حتى ولو لم يكن متخصصاً.
يقدم رؤية للزوميات أبي العلاء تختلف عن كل ما كتب حولھا في القديم والحديث؛ حيث بنيت على تأمل عميق طويل للزوميات نفسھا، ولم تعتمد على مجرد الروايات والأخبار، والتسامع!. واللزوميات في تراث أبي العلاء معلم بارز؛ كمنارة مسجد عتيق في مصر إسلامي!. قيل عن المتنبي (إنه ملأ الدنيا وشغل الناس)! وأبو العلاء – في تقديرنا - كان جديرًا بأن يملأ الدنيا، ويشغل الناس بأكثر مما صنع أبو الطيب؛ لنتفق حول ھذه الرؤى أو نختلف؛ لكن ما ينبغي ألا نختلف عليه: أن تراث أبي العلاء، واللزوميات في مقدمته؛ شھادة تضعه في مقدمة من يستحقون الانتماء إلى (الأدب الإسلامي) والانتساب إلى الأدب الإنساني العالمي!. ولسنا نبالغ حين نقول: إن أبا العلاء أحق شعراء العربية وأدبائھا بوصف الشاعر والأديب الإسلامي.. لقد التزم أبو العلاء في إبداع ديوان اللزوميات الضخم ما لا يلزمه؛ فھل كان صنيعه ھذا نافلة يثاب عليھا، أو تكلفًا يحاسب عليه؟! ھو يقر بأنه تكلف في اللزوميات ثلاث كُلَف، فلم تكلفھا؛ وھو واعٍ بآثارھا؟ ما دافعه لذلك وما تفسيره وما أثره؟ ھل لديوانه ھذا نظير في التراث الشعري العربي قبله؟ ما علاقة كل ھذا بآفة أبي العلاء؟ ما علاقة شكل اللزوميات بمضمونھا؟ وإلى أي مدى اقتضى المضمون فيھا الشكل؟. قضايا كثيرة متشعبة ومتداخلة يعالجھا ھذا الكتاب.. تلك بعض منھا!.
