اللغة العربية لغة العقل تومض في القلوب فتظهر على اللسان، ولا بلاغة لمن لا قلب له، ولا لسان لمن لا عقل له، فأما التأليف بين القلب والعقل واللسان فهو سرّ البلاغة العربية، الذي جعل منها تناغمات فاتنة تتوزع على قواعدها إيقاعات الكلام، بين إيجاز وافٍ لا يجوز أن يقوم مقامه إطناب مخلّ، وحقيقة بينة لا يجوز أن يقوم مقامها مجاز مبهم.
والتفتازاني أحد أولئك الأفذاذ من أسلافنا الذين جمعوا بلاغة العقل إلى بلاغة اللسان مع رهف في الشعور، وتوقّد في الفكر، فكان من ذلك كله نظراتٌ نافذات، وأحكامٌ صائبات تسدّد هنا وتصحّح هناك. وقد حاول الباحث في هذه الرسالة استخلاص الآراء البلاغية لهذا العَلَم الفذّ، وتحقيق تلك الآراء وإفرادها بالدراسة، حيث بدأ باستقراء آرائه البلاغية من كتبه المؤلفة في البلاغة مطبوعها ومخطوطها، مع النظر في كتبه المؤلفة في العلوم الأخرى، محققاً في نسبة هذه الآراء إلى السعد، ثم بعد ذلك أبعَد ما وقع في كتب السعد من آراء بلاغية لم يكن له فيها ابتكار أو اجتهاد، وأبقى على الأخرى وعليها بنى معاقد البحث.
واعتمد الباحث في عرض مسائل البحث على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، وقد يعوّل على المنهج التاريخي في دراسة تطور آراء السعد إن وقع ذلك بين كتبه، كما أنه لم يألُ جهداً في مناقشة السعد فيما يذهب إليه ، وقد يخالفه إن أمكنته الحجة، وأسعفه الدليل. عشاق الفصاحة والبيان، واللغة العربية.
