يوميات رجل أرمل (مارتين سانتومي) يقترب من سن التقاعد بعد أن أمضى حياته موظفاً بين دفاتر الحسابات، ومضطراً إلى تربية أبنائه الثلاثة بعد وفاة زوجته.

الوحدة وإنعدام التواصل، الحب والسعادة، والموت، والمشاكل السياسية هي بعض الأمور التي يواجهها القارئ في الهدنة الرواية المترجمة إلى عشرات اللغات، وجرى إقتباسها للسينما والتلفزيون والمسرح والإذاعة، ولكنها كانت أولاً وقبل كل شيء متعة إستثنائية للقراء في أنحاء العالم كافة.
