هذا الكتاب هو من إعداد المحامي الدكتور "إبراهيم شوقي" وهو أستاذ محاضر في كلية الحقوق في الجامعة اللبنانية، وهو عبارة عن محاضرات كان المؤلف قد ألقاها على طلابه في الجامعة حيث تحدث فيها عن السفينة والأشخاص الذين يعملون عليها ويستفيدون من تشغيلها واستغلالها، كما ويتحدث عن الحوادث التي تتعرض لها السفينة (التصادم والإسعاف والإنقاذ والخسائر المشتركة) ولما كان كل ما سبق ذكره من لمعاملات وحوادث يحصل ضمانة عادة لدى شركات الضمان، فقد خصص المؤلف قسماً في كتابه لشرح عقد الاستقراض الجزائي وعقود الضمان البخرية لما لهذه العقود من أهمية كبيرة في حقل التجارة البحرية.
