لذلك اهتممنا في هذا الكتاب برصد ظاهرة العشق في النصوص المقدّسة، فعلى الرغم ممّا تزخر به هذه النصوص من تجارب في العشق وأخبار عن العشّاق وأحوالهم ظلّ العشق من المسائل الممنوع طرقها لإلتباسه بالجنساني وبالخطيئة ولسياسة الطمس التي ما فتئت المدوّنات الفقهية تفرضها على الجسد، إذ هو مدعوّ للإنضباط بواسطة طقوس المنع وطقوس السيطرة على تعبيراته، لأنه مصدر أخطائنا، فطوّقت العشق بجملة من الأحكام الأخلاقية.
لقد وطّنّا النفس على قراءة صنفٍ مخصوصٍ من الأجساد هو الجسد الإيروسي يحدونا في ذلك هاجس الإستكشاف لأن العشق هو السرّ الخفي الذي يجتذب الإنسان إليه، وهاجس معرفة الحميم فينا وفهمه، فــ "تاريخ فهم الحب والموقف منه يشكّل مستودعاً جميلاً للنفس الإنسانية، وبالفعل فالنفس منذ البداية تعبّر عن نفسها في الحب وحده".
ثم إنّنا نأمل مراجعة التّراث الدّيني ببصيرة متيقظة وعقل واع لتبيّن كيفيّة طرح قضية الجسد من مرجعية دينيّة إلى أخرى، وكيفيّة طرح مسألة العشق والمقدّس بين الثقافة اليَهُومسيحيّة والثقافة الإسلاميّة، لفهم ذواتنا وفهم الآخر المغاير دينيّاً في تنوّعه وإختلافه، والتفاعل معه.
