"برحت ساحتي والأدهم الذي عشقته كبا، فقدت في عيونه حرارة الهوى، وكنت قد تركت في جبينه للغار قبلتين، واخترت بعده وذقت في تمزقي مرارة النوى، رثيت أمسنا وخلف الرثاء في فؤادي الطين ندبتين... لألف عام خلتها نهاية الحقب، ورثت قلب شاهر مضى تعشقت عيونه رحائب الفضا، وأنفق الحياة عابداً، سهوت عنك يا مدائن الشموس، ساقني ضلال شاعر إلى الفراغ وجدت فيك في اغترابي الجحود هيكلاً... وقلت ربنا لتمطر السماء تغرق الصحرا بالعطاء، وعمقت سيناء في فؤادي الطين ندبتين أحبتي لا تغمضوا العيون، قصتي لها بقية فلست زاهداً وموسمي يظل واعداً، وخلفت عوائل الجفاف حبة نمت بها الحياة، وأعطت الحقول حنطة وسوسنا، لتمسحي جفونك المخضلات يا مدينتي واستقبلي النهار، لعتبة الطريق في دم المحيط.
