عنى الكتاب بدراسة المتناقضات الكامنة في توجهات الأمن القومي العربي في ضوء القواعد التي تحكم ما يسمى بالنظام الدولي الجديد والفترة السابقة، ويلاحظ القارئ الكريم بأن هناك بعض التداخل ما بين بعض موضوعات الكتاب وهذا شئ طبيعي نظراً لتداخل وتشابك "أجزاء الأمن القومي العربي"، وبالتالي اقتضت الحاجة استخدام الوسائل المنهجية الحديثة للإحاطة بالعديد من المتغيرات ورصد التفاعلات التي تحدث بينهما وتؤثر سلباً أو إيجاباً على قضايا الأمن القومي العربي في ظروف وأوضاع العالم العربي المعاصرة، وبالتالي إمكانية تحديد الأولويات حول قدرات وإمكانيات الأطراف المختلفة التي تمس هذه القضايا (الإطار الدولي- الهيمنة الأمريكية- الطرف الإسرائيلي وخطورته حرباً وسلماً على الأمن القومي العربي ثم الطرف العربي) وهذا هو الأهم، وأرجو أن يكون هذه الكتاب مفيداً للباحث والقارئ فموضوعاته- من وجهة نظر المؤلف- تحوي منهجاً متكاملاً يجمع بين المنهج التاريخي في تبلور وتسلسل " فكر" الأمن القومي العربي، والمنهج التحليلي اذي لا يقنع بالسرد وإنما يمتد إلى الفحص والتمحيص.
