تتجلى أهمية النقود كمصدر مهم من مصادر دراسة التاريخ والحضارة الإسلامية في رموز الأرقام والتقاويم المسجلة عليها، وهو ما سنتناوله- إن شاء الله تعالى- في هذا البحث تحت عنوان "رموز الأرقام والتقاويم على النقود في العصر الإسلامي؛ حيث نعرض بالدراسة والتحليل لأنواع رموز الأرقام والتقاويم التي ظهرت على النقود إبان العصر الإسلامي؛ حيث نتناول النقود التي سكها الحكام المسلمون في العصور المختلفة، كما نتناول أيضًا النقود المقلدة للنقود الإسلامية والتي سكت برعاية حكام من غير المسلمين.
وسوف نبدأ في هذا الكتاب- إن شاء الله- بدراسة رموز الأرقام التي ظهرت على النقود في العصر الإسلامي، ثم نتناول التقاويم المختلفة التي استخدمت على هذه النقود- في إطار التسلسل الزمني لها كلما أمكن ذلك- مع ربط هذه التقاويم وأساليب تسجيلها برموز الأرقام السابقة؛ حيث نتناول التقويم من حيث نشأته، وبداية ظهوره على النقود، ورموز الأرقام التي سجل بها على النقود. ويلي ذلك دراسة لبعض النقود التي استخدمت أكثر من تقويم في تسجيل تاريخ السك عليها، وأخيرًا نعرض لأنواع الشهور التي استخدمت في تسجيل تاريخ السك على النقود، والتقاويم التي تنسب إليها. ونختتم الدراسة ببعض الأشكال واللوحات التوضيحية لنماذج من النقود التي تم تناولها في هذا الكتاب، ومن أهمها مجموعة كبيرة من النقود لم يسبق نشرها او دراستها من قبل محفوظة بمركز المسكوكات الإسلامية بجامعة توبنجن بألمانيا.
