اعتمدنا فى هذه الدراسة التى بين أيدينا على مجموعة منتقاة من ثائق بلاد الشام اشتملتعلى بيانات وتقارير حربية ومراسلات من قادة القوات المصرية بالشام الى محمد على والى مصر، كما اشتملت على أوامر وتلعيمات محمد على الى هؤلاء القادة بخصوص سير العمليات والخطط التى يجب اتباعها والتى يتضح منها الاستعدادات الخاصة بمواجهة الدروز والموارنة، كما يتضح منها أيضا مدى المعاناة التى لاقاها الجنود المصريون أثناء اخمادهم لهذه الثورات التى تصدعت فهيا هيبة الجيش المصرى مما شجع على انتقال هذه الثورات الى كافة أنحاء الشام، وأطاح بالوجود المصرى هناك فى نهاية الأمر.
