تعتمد هذه الدراسة على مجموعة منتقاة من وثائق عابدين الخاصة ببلاد الشام، والتى تشتمل على مراسلات وتقارير أرسلها ابراهيم باشا، قائد الحملة على عكا، وبعض كبار مساعديه الى محمد على بعض التقارير الحربية، للجيش المصرى، التى تصور مراحل حصار عكا خطوة بخطوة، كما تبين الخطط البديلة التى كانت تتخذ أحيانا، أما تفاديا لموقف صعب، أو محاولة لانجاز سريع حتى تم للجيش المصرى الاستيلاء على قلعة عكا، ودخول المدنية واستسلام أهاليها، ثم طلب حاكمها عبد لله باشا العفو والأمان، واستجابة ابراهيم باشا لطلبة وارساله الى مصر، واستقبال محمد على له.
