يمكن القول: إن قضية الحوار سنة كونية، ومبدأ شرعى، وأسلوب حياة لا غنى للخلق عنه. والحوار قاسم مشترك على مستوى الأمم والجماعات والأديان والأفراد، بل حدث الحوار فى عالم الحشرات.
ولحكمة أرادها البارى تعالى لا يزال الناس مختلفين، والناس عندما يختلفون لا يخرج علاج هذا الخوف عن أمرين: أما بقوة السنان وإما بقوة اللسان، ونعنى بالأول: الحرب والقتال، هذا النوع من العلاج قديم قدم الخلاف، وهو منطق الظلمة على مر التاريخ واجهوا به الأنبياء والعلماء والمؤمنين بعد أن أقيمت الحجة على الظالمين، وظهر بعد الحوار أنهم مغلوبون.
أما النوع الثانى لمعالجة الخلاف فهو: الحوار للوصول إلى الحق، وهو منهج الرسل، فالسبيل إلى الوصول للآخر ليس إلا عن طريق الحوار، لأن القناعات الداخلية هى طريق الإيمان الخالى من الشوائب، وأما القوة فقد تصنع موافقة ظاهرة ومعاندة باطنة، أى تصنع نفاقاً متربصاً ليس من ورائه خير. إن الحوار ترياق فعال لمعالجة كثير من الأدواء الفكرية والعقدية.
وإن كان الأولون قد عدوا الجدل علماً ووضعوا له ضوابط وشروطاً وآدابا، فيمكن أن يقال: إن "علم الحوار" فى عصرنا هذا قد حل مكان علم الجدل، وقد حوى أبوابه وزاد عليها. من أجل ذلك كان هذا البحث (الحوار منهجاً وثقافة)، وقد جعلته فى مقدمة وتمهيد وخمسة أبواب وخاتمة.
أما المقدمة فأشرت فيها إلى أهمية الحوار وأنه يمتد منذ بدء الخليقة وإلى أن تقوم الساعة، بل امتداده إلى ما بعد قيام الساعة، وحتى بعد أن يستقر أهل الجنة فى الجنة منعمين، ويبقى أهل النار الذين هم أهلها فيها معذبين.
وأما التمهيد: فتحدثت فيه عن معانى ألفاظ متقاربة أومتناظرة: الحوار والجدل والمناظرة والمحاجة والمماراة.
أما الأبواب فكانت كالتالى: الباب الأول - منهجية الحوار. الباب الثانى - مشروعية الحوار فى الكتاب والسنة. الباب الثالث - الحوار بين الذات والآخر. الباب الرابع - الإسلام بين الحوار والمواجهة (صراع الحضارات). الباب الخامس - ثقافة الحوار وثمراته.
