يكشف هذا الكتاب عن وحدة النقد الماركسي لمستويات الوجود الإجتماعي المختلفة، فهو يتناول بالبحث نقد السياسة عند ماركس وذلك عبر ردّه إلى نقد الإقتصاد السياسي ونقد فلسفة التاريخ النظرية وفلسفة الحق. كما يجلو لنا عن حركة تطور فكر ماركس، ولادة هذا الفكر في أحضان الكلاسيكية الألمانية وتجاوزه لإشكالياتها النظرية من خلال معانقة المشروع الثوري الذي رفعته قوى إجتماعية كانت تتجلى لأول مرة كذات تاريخية على مسرح التاريخ الأوربي، ألا وهو مشروع التحرر الإنساني الشامل، الذي كان يختمر آنذاك على مستوى الواقع والفكر. ولأن المفاهيم هي "متطلبات موضوعية في المعرفة" كما يقول باليبار، أو قل هي التي تجعل الإنسانية ممكنة طالما أنها أداة الإنسان العارف لإدراك الأشياء، فإن مؤلفي هذا الكتاب يطرحون على أنفسهم مهمة محو الصدأ، المتراكم بكثافة بفعل الأيديولوجيا وغياب الوعي النقدي، عن منظومة المفاهيم التي تشكل أساس فكر ماركس السياسي: الدولة والمجتمع المدني، الحزب والطبقة، النظرية والممارسة، التاريخ والسياسة، الوعي والتنظيم، القاعدة والبنية الفوقية...الخ. إن إعادة الإعتبار لهذه المفاهيم المتضايفة في الفكر كما في الواقع، حيث كل مفهوم يفترض الآخر ويقتضيه فبدون ذلك لا قوام له ولا وجود، هي ، في الواقع، إعادة إعتبار لجدلية فكر ماركس وهي ضرورية أيضاً ليس فقط من أجل فهم علمي لإشكاليات فكر ماركس وإنما كذلك من أجل إدراك علمي لواقعنا وتناقضاته بعيداً عن صخب الشعارات وتضليل الأيديولوجيا.
