ولد كمال الشاعر في السلط (الأردن)، وجد واجتهد في دراسته الابتدائية والثانوية. ثم تابع دروسه في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت. أبحر إلى الولايات المتحدة الأميركية (جامعتي ميتشيغان ويال) وعاد إلى الشرق الأوسط لينشئ إمبراطورية عالمية للهندسة والاستشارات والتصاميم، باسم دار الهندسة للاستشارات الفنية (شاعر ومشاركوه) انطلقت شقة صغيرة في بيروت، وتنتشر مكاتبها اليوم في 41 دولة من دول العالم.
كافحت دار الهندسة، في سنواتها الأولى، ونافست الشركات الاستشارية الغربية العريقة، وفازت بعقود لمشاريع هندسية "فخمة" في الشرق الأوسط. وفي نهاية المطاف. امتدت نشاطاتها إلى أوروبا والولايات المتحدة الأميركية وأفريقيا وآسيا. وفي مرحلة حرجة من نموها تخلى كمال الشاعر عن 60% من أسهمها لصالح شركاء جدد، وبذلك تحققت رؤيته في بناء مؤسسة تملك مقومات البقاء والاستمرار.
واكب كمال الشاعر، بعين الرقيب الثاقب النظر، بعضاً من أهم التحولات التاريخية في الشرق الأوسط، وفي سطور سيرته المكتوبة بأسلوب صادق وشفاف، نتبين تاريخ المنطقة المتقلب والمضطرب في مرحلة ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية، ونتابع، في الوقت ذاته، قيام واحدة من أهم الشركات الهندسية ومشاريع الأعمال في العالم ونموها. وينساب كل ذلك في ما يشبه الملحمة السردية الغنية بالإيحاءات والأصداء.
