من الصعوبات التي كادت تعصف بهذه الترجمة استخدام المؤلف أسلوب الجمل التلغرافية المتقطعة، وكثرة طرح التساؤلات والانقطاعات في أثناء الكلام، والانتقال المفاجئ من لغة التأليف إلى لغة الاقتباس والعكس بالعكس، والميل العام إلى استعمال جمل اعتراضية، وإن كانت هذه سمة عامة في اللغة الألمانية، وينفرد المؤلف بلغة ذات طابع تأملي فلسفي تصعب من فهم قصد المؤلف، وتجعل عبارته مبهمة أحيانًا، ويصير فهم المراد محاولة محفوفة بالمخاطر.
بيد أن الكتاب يتسم بإيجابيات أخرى كثيرة حملتني على ضرورة نقله إلى العربية، منها نهجه المستقل في التعامل مع قضايا البحث اللغوي النصي، وانفراده في عرض موضوعاته وتقسيم فصوله، كما أنه يقدم مادة علمية لم يسبق أن قدمت من قبل، أو يضعها في سياق يختص به دون غيره، والميل إلى طرح كل المسائل للنقاش وعدم التسليم المطلق بالآراء السابقة، وتوظيف النقول والاستشهادات توظيفًا معضدًا لوجهة نظره، واستخدام مصطلحات حديثة نقلت من علوم متاخمة للسانيات النص وبخاصة علوم الحاسوب ونظرية المعلومات.
وقد قسم المؤلف كتابه إلى سبعة فصول كالآتي: (الفصل الأول: النص موضوعًا للبحث- من تاريخ لسانيات النص، الفصل الثاني: في مفهوم النص، الفصل الثالث: خواص النص أبعادًا للوصف، الفصل الرابع: السياق الموقفي، الفصل الخامس: الوظيفة، الفصل السادس: الموضوع/ المضمون، الفصل السابع: الشكل اللغوي).
