"حمل َحسن البنّا، مؤسس جماعة الإخوان المسلمين، بين أنصاره ومريديه لقب "" الإمام الشهيد"" بألف لام التعريف. وهو اللقب الذي سَبق وأٌطلق في التاريخ على سيد الشهداء الحسين بن علي؛ البنا بين أنصاره هو كذلك: الرجل المُلهم، النوراني، الرباني, القرآني، وهي صفات ترفع صاحبها فوقَ ما هو إنساني وتقترب به من درجة القداسة والعصمة. في المقابل أطلق خصوم البنّا، وهم كثر، عليه لقب ""راسبوتين"" ، والمعنى عندهم أنه رجل الشرور والمفاسد، وأنه توارى خلف قناع الورع والفضيلة لينشر الخراب والفوضى. تُرى اين يقع حسن البنّا بين هذين النقيضين ومن هو الضبط. الإمام الشهيد أم راسبوتين؟ ذلك ما يحاول الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا البحث فيه والتساؤل حوله، معتمداً على أعمال حسن البنّا ورسائله وخطبه. ولأن مؤسس جماعة الإخوان كان رجل تنظيم قبل أن يكون رجل تنظير، والفعل عنده يسبق الكلمة ويتقدمها، لذا ذهب الكاتب والصحافي ""حلمي النمنم"" المعروف بموضوعيته وأكاديميته التي يُشهد لها بين أصدقاءه وخصومه إلى الوثائق المتعلقة به، وبتلك الحقبة الغنية بالعمل السياسي والتحولات العميقة في تاريخنا المعاصر، وتلك التي دوّنها من اقتربوا منه أو تعاملوا معه، ليُقدم لنا قراءة جديدة لحسن البنّا. ليس وجه الأسطورة التي صاغها الأتباع والدارسون من جانب، أو الخصوم والكارهون من الجانب الآخر، فكلٌّ لديه أسطورة خاصة بحياة ومسيرة حسن البنّا. هو إنسان بمقدرات خاصة ومكونات ثقافية محددة في لحظة زمانية من تاريخ مصر، ولاحقاً العرب والإسلام السياسي، مجتمعاً ودولةً وتاريخاً. لحظة متأزمة بالاستعمار الأوروبي والفقر والجهل والتأخر."
