"أشكو وحدتي خلف الستارة، وأستشرف ليلاً جميلاً، ينفضه شخص ما كالرداء، فتتساقط أنجمه المضيئة، كالغبار في وعاء من الطين غطته ساحرة ومضت، عبر السماء، ها هي أشجاري ترتمي على الأرض وتحرق لهاثي أوراقها الخضراء. ألملم أهاتي، وأرمي التالف منها، خلف جدران المساء، أرتعش من البرد في الليل الدافئ وعيناي زائغتان كالجبناء، وأتساءل: لماذا أتيت إلى هنا؟ وكل شيء في الغابة يدعو للرثاء هل أصرخ صرختي الأخيرة؟ لم أنتظر طلوع الشمس، حتى أحصي كم فريسة، تركت ورائي، مضرجة بالدماء".
