الإنجليزية لأغراض خاصة English for specific purposes، علم حديث ينادي بتدريس اللغة الإنجليزية وفقاً لطبيعة التخصص، بحيث يستوعب هذا العلم لغة كل تخصص جديد، ومن ثم يقوم بتصنيفها ضمن إحدى زواياه.
فالعالم العسكري، شأنه في ذلك شأن أمثاله من العلوم الأخرى، علم مستقل له طابعه الخاص ومفرداته وأساليبه المنطقية في معالجة مواضيعه، وتفصيلاته الفنية والتعبوية التي تكونه وتميزه عن غيره من العلوم الأخرى.
وتمشياً مع علم "الإنجليزية لأغراض خاصة" وحرصاً مني على إيجاد مرجع تخصصي في العلم العسكري يوافق ويزامن التطور اللغوي في جميع المجلات، ورغبة مني في إبراز المصطلحات العسكرية والأمنية الفنية منها والتعبوية إلى حيز الواقع والوجود مع ما يوفره ذلك من جهد وتنقيب على أولئك الذين يعلمون في سلك العسكري، فقد رأيت أنه من الضروري إنتاج مقل هذا العمل التطوعي ليأخذ العلم العسكري، كسائر العلوم، نصيبه من كل جديد وحديث، نظراً لأهمية مثل هذه المصطلحات للدارسين العسكريين الذين لا يمكن لهم بأي حال من الأحوال الاستغناء أو حتى التغاضي عنها.
وهدفنا أن نزود القارئ العسكري الكريم، حيثما كان وأينما وصل، بذخيرة لغوية عسكرية تمكنه من السير قدماً في ميدان عمله وتساعده في اكتساب المعرفة الحقيقية لصقل مهاراته اللغوية والمهنية ومجابهة تحديات مهنته في أي حقل يتواجد فيه، دونما مواجهة عناء البحث ومشقة التنقيب، وعلى غير طائل أحياناً، في عشرات المراجع والمصادر.
