يوم كان الشعر العربي يشغل الممالك ويملأ القصور، كانت اللغة العامية تنمو وتتفاعل بين الشعوب، وقد برز العديد من شعرائها وفي طليعتهم ابن قزمان الذي اعتبر كأحد أكبر شعراء العامية في الأندلس، وعبثاً حاول الشعر الفصيح طمس هذه المظاهر الفريدة التي بقيت الأقرب إلى قلوب الناس ومسامعهم، ومع تعلّق الجموع بهذا اللون، راح الشعر العامي ينشر بسرعة بين الشعوب العربية التي أصبح لكل منها لون زجلياته وأغانيه المميز، ولقد ظهر الزجل التونسي، والمصري والخليجي الذي يعرف "بالشعر النبطي" كما يعرف في لبنان "بالشعر اللبناني".
في الأقطار المجاورة بقي الزجل مكتوباً ومغنى على أخوة الناس والمطربين، ولكنه في لبنان كان مجاله أرحب وصياغته أنقى وأصغى، لأن الشعراء أنفسهم كانوا يؤلفونه ويغنونه في جميع المناسبات على امتداد الأرض العربية ويوم انطلقت الأغنية اللبنانية على العالم العربي كان الزجل أباً لهذه الأغنية ولما يزل. ونظراً لأهمية هذا التراث، قررت وزارة التربية الوطنية في لبنان تدريس نماذج من الزجل في الصفوف الثانوية والجامعية.
والشاعر موسى زغيب صاحب هذا الديوان هو من مواليد عام 1937، وقد اعتلى المنبر الزجلي عام 1954 بفرقة كانت تحمل اسمه، وبعدها انضم إلى عدة فرق زجلية إلى أن التقى أخيراً الشاعر الكبير خليل روكز وبقيا معاً حتى عام 1962 تاريخ وفاة هذا الأخير.
والشاعر زغيب يعتبر القطب الأكبر في مباراة التحدي بين الفرق الزجلية في لبنان من العام 1964 وحتى يومنا هذا، والحكومة اللبنانية تقديراً منها لهذا الشاعر، عمدت إلى منحه وسام الاستحقاق اللبنانية تقديراً منها لهذا الشاعر، عمدت إلى منحه وسام الاستحقاق اللبنانية عام 1973 لنشرة رسالة التراث اللبنانية في لبنان وجميع بلدان الاغتراب. وهذا الكتاب الذي يضعه الشاعر موسى زغيب بين أيدي الشعراء يحمل بعضاً من أشعاره الزجلية التي جاءت بها قريحة الشعرية.
