إن مشكلة الطائفية في مجتمعات الأمة يصنعها ويمدها عنصران رئيسان: سياسي وديني؛ يتمثل العنصر الأول في إعتماد سياسة التمييز الطائفي بين المواطنين، وتشجيع حالات الصراع المذهبي لأغراض سياسية.
بينما يتمثل العنصر الآخر في نهج الخطاب الديني حين يعتمد التعبئة المذهبية، بالتركيز على نقاط الخلاف، والإستدعاء الدائم للتاريخ والتراث من أجل تغذية المشاعر المذهبية، والتحريض ضد الآخر.
ومما يثير الخلق أن هذين العنصرين السياسي والديني، يعملان الآن بشكل محموم لتأجيج الصراع الطائفي في أكثر من موقع في ساحة الأمة، وكان ما حدث في العراق لا يكفي للعظة والإعتبار.
ولا نزاع أخطر على الأمة من النزاع الطائفي، حيث يوظّف الدين في إذكاء أواره، ويكون الدفاع عن العقيدة والمذهب عنواناً لمعاركه، فتستباح حرمات الإسلام بأيدي المسلمين أنفسهم.
