في هذا الكتاب يروي العلاّمة الشيخ عبد الشهيد الستراوي قصة (النبي يوسف) عليه السلام كما جاءت في القرآن الكريم الذي وصفها بأحسن القصص. وسيرة النبي يوسف تتميز عن بقية قصص الأنبياء القرآنية بمجموعة ميزات يذكرها المؤلف في سياق حديثة منها أنها جاءت في سورة كاملة تتحدث ضمن آياتها في تسلسل الأحداث التي مرت على النبي يوسف عليه السلام حيث تمضي في خط واحد منذ البداية إلى النهاية، كما يراها المؤلف تحتوي على علم متكامل من العبر والدروس لها طابع خاص ومنهج رباني، فهي قصة إنسانية إجتماعية فهي بيان كامل لعصر النبي وكامل حياته وهو يعاني صنوفاً من المحن والإبتلاءات، وفيها نماذج متنوعة لشخصيات عدة تمثل كل واحدة منها دوراً له اتجاهه الإيجابي أو السلبي كنموذج يعقوب الوالد المحب الملهوف، والنبي المطمئن الموصول بالإيمان بالله تعالى، ونموذج يوسف الولد المغدور به، ونموذج آخر تمثل في إخوة يوسف وما كانوا عليه من صفات الغيرة والحسد والحقد والمؤامرة والمناورة وارتكاب الجريمة، ونموذج امرأة العزيز بكل غرائزها ورغباتها، ونموذج العزيز ونموذج الكهنة ونموذج الرعاة وغيرهم.
وفي هذا السياق يسلّط المؤلف الضوء على الجانب الإقتصادي من سيرة يوسف عليه السلام، فالسورة القرآنية تخبرنا بأن يوسف وضع الحلول والبرامج لكثير من المشاكل والأزمات التي مرّ بها عصره، وقد عالجت السورة بحكمة نبي الله يوسف عليه السلام عبر التوجيه الرباني المشكلة الإقتصادية التي كادت تعصف بمصر بزرع الحبوب وتخزينه كما أعطت الدروس الحقيقية لحقوق الإنسان عندما تحدثت عن السجن وأحواله (السجناء الأبرياء)، وكذلك بيّنت الآيات مبادىء الحكم العادل بالنسبة للحاكم تجاه المحكوم .. جميع هذه الوقائع يشرحها المؤلف كما وردت في السورة القرآنية مع إبداء وبيان جوانب من شخصية هذا النبي العظيم.
