بين يدي القارئ الكريم أعمال ندوة "معركة رشيد: قرنان على قهر حملة فريزر 1807- 2007، التي عقدها مركز تاريخ مصر المعاصر في يوم الأحد الموافق 25 نوفمبر عام 2007، تناولت الندوة والتي اختصت بالدراسة والبحث نصراً عزيزاً مؤزراً حققته جموع شعبية من أهل رشيد على واحدة من الحملات العسكرية القوية قادها قائد بحري مشهور من رجال إمبراطورية عملاقة سادت البحار، ولم تكن تغيب عنها الشمس، حيث صارت قوة عالمية تمتد مستعمراتها في القارات كلها، ألا وهي بريطانيا العظمى. وإذ مر هذا العام قرنان على هذا الحدث الكبير، فما كان لمركز بحثي وطني هدفه الحفاظ على تاريخ الوطن، وعمله صون الذاكرة الوطنية، أن تفلت منه المناسبة، وأن لا ينشغل بإحيائها ولفت الإنتباه إليها، إبرازاً لإرادة شعب حر أبى الخضوع والخنوع، وقاوم المحتل الغازي وأجبره على التراجع، وذلك في وقتكانت الدولة العثمانية وواليها على مصر "محمد علي" أعجز من أن يواجها الحملة البريطانية، ولكنهما كانا أسرع مبادرة إلى استثمار النصر العزيز، نصر رشيد هو معركة دولية كبيرة ذات أبعاد عالمية مؤثرة في التاريخ الإنساني كله. ولذا لزم أن يكون انعقاد هذه الندوة لدراستها في هذا الوقت بالتحديد وقبل أن ينصرم زمن الإحتفال بذكراها لمئويتين كاملتين.
