"ابن خلدون" في هذا الكتاب مختلف، بل ربما نقيض لــ"ابن خلدون" الذي عرفناه أو الذي سلّمنا بمعرفته من دون أن تشكك لحظة في كلّ ما قاله الباحثون العرب عنه، وخاصة الحداثيّون منهم، فقد أرضت مكانته العلميّة - بما هو مؤسّس علم الإجتماع أو العمران - عزّتنا العربيّة والإسلاميّة، ورممت بعضاً من شعورنا بالتخلف العلمي تجاه الغرب.
لكنّ ناحية الوريمّي، الباحثة التونسية، لم تسلّم بهذا الموقف، وقادتها تحليلاتها إلى أنّ أغلب الدراسات والأبحاث الخلدونيّة التي قام بها مفكرون وباحثون عرب قاصرةٌ، بسبب استنادها إلى موقف إيديولوجي اعتمد الإنتقائية التي تخدم فكرة الطليعية العلمية عند "ابن خلدون"، العربي المسلم.
وهكذا أعادت النظر في كل ما قاله هذا المفكّر في مقدمته وفي تاريخه وفي غيرهما، محلّلة خطابه على ضوء الظرف التاريخي والإجتماعي والسياسي في عصره، وعلى ضوء كل ما كتبه سابقوه من المفكرين والفلاسفة المسلمين، وما طرحه التيارات الكلامية والسياسية السابقة له.
لا تقلل ناحية الوريمّي من مكانة "ابن خلدون"، ولكنها تراه كسواه يجوز نقده، بل - وبالنظر إلى موقعه - يجدر أن يكون هذا النقد عبر الحفر المعرفيّ في خطابه وفي نظرياته، ليس بقصد المخالفة والتفرّد، بل بهدف البحث عن الحقيقة المعرفية، والتحرر من كل سلطوية ولو كانت هي سلطة "ابن خلدون".
