الأسطورة السياسية هي تلك الأسطورة التي ليس لها أساس من الواقع، إنما تضفي أو تلعب دوراً هاماً في مجرى الأحداث السياسية، وبالنسبة للأساطير السياسية في مصر القديمة، فإنه يوجد لها نموذجاً هما أسطورة الخير على الشر، وأسطورة الميلاد الإلهي للفرعون، وسأتعرض بالدراسة للنموذجين، في محاولة لبلورتها وبيان الأساس الفلسفي والسياسي ووظيفة هذا النوع من الأساطير، وكيف أنها أثرت على بعض النواحي الدينية والتاريخية في مصر القديمة.
وقد اخترت الكتابة في الأساطير السياسية لتقف على نمو ونشأة الحياة السياسية وتطورها المصري، والعوامل التي كانت خلف نمو تلك الحياة، ولتوضيح العلاقة بين السماء والأرض حول حكم مصر، مبلورة اتجاهات مصر القديمة حيث روح المكان له أثر كبير على الحياة السياسية ثم توضيح الدراسة خلال الأساطير وعرضها وتحليلها، وفلسفة الحكم المصري من ورائها والعلاقة بين المصريين وحكامهم.
ولأتساءل مجيبة خلال صفحات الكتاب عن كيف أن النظام السياسي لمصر القديمة، قد عمل على إرساء التقليد الذى ربط المصريين بحكامهم وذلك حينما قامت تلك التقاليد على ثالوث: التدين، والعمل، والطاعة.
وهذا راجع إلى أن حاكم مصر القديمة هو في الوقت نفسه حكيمها ووثيق الصلة بآلهتها، والصلة بين السماء والأرض قد تم بناء جسورها عبر الرحلة التي قام ويقوم بها الملك في مصر القديمة عند مجيئه ولدى رحيله.
