وعلى الرغم من الفوائد الجمة للإشعاع، فإن له ما يشكله من مضارّ واضحة على الصحة والبيئة، وما قد يؤثر به على السلالات البشرية، وما دام الإستغناء عن إستعمال الإشعاع قد أضحى مستحيلاً، فيتحتم علينا دراسة وبحث طرق وتقنية الحماية من الإشعاع، وزيادة دائرة التثقيف بها للوقاية منه، وإلى تحديد آثاره بالأقل الممكن عمليّاً من أجل درء مضاره في المجتمعات العربية المعاصرة، حيث يتزايد الإستعمال التطبيقي للإشعاع بشكل حاد.
لذلك، تأتي ترجمة هذا الكتاب بوصفها إحدى المحاولات من أجل تزويد العاملين في حقل الإشعاع بالمعلومات.
