وبالعودة لمتن الكتاب نجده قد انتظم في أربعة فصول، تعنى الفصول الثلاثة الأولى بالمفاهيم الأساسية للفيزياء الذرية والنووية وطبيعة الإشعاع وانتقال الطاقة من الإشعاع إلى المادة، ويختص الفصل الرابع بالتأثيرات الكيمائية والفيزيائية والبيولوجية للإشعاع من تأين وتهيج وتوليد الجذور الحرة ويتضمن كذلك معلومات أساسية عن تركيب النسيج الحي ووصف للخلية ووظائفها وأهم مكوناتها وتأثير الإشعاع عليها وعلى مكوناتها الحساسة وعلى عموم الجسم، كما يتضمن هذا الفصل المبادئ الأساسية في الوقاية من الإشعاع والأجهزة المستخدمة في الكشف عنه.
