في كتابه هذا يجمع الدكتور على المحمداوي ما توافر له من أدلة من تاريخ الإسلام قبل البعثة النبوية الشريفة للتأكيد على وجود الإسلام قبل مبعث النبي صبى الله عليه وسلم ودليله إلى ذلك آيات بينات وروايات عدة دلت دلالة واضحة على إسلام الناس واجتماعهم على دين واحد " إن الدين عند الله هو الإسلام" قبل وبعد البعثة المحمدية.
انطلاقاً من هذه الرؤية قسَم المؤلف كتابه إلى خمسة فصول: يبحث الفصل الأول في: الجذور التاريخية للإسلام: دراسة في الآية/213 من سورة البقرة ويضم مبحثين: المبحث الأول حول عبارة وردت في القرآن في مواضع عدة وهي "الأمة الواحدة" في قوله تعالى: كان الناس أمة واحدة فبعث الله النبيين مبشرين ومنذرين". أما المبحث الثاني فخصص للبحث في كلمة "الناس" في نفس الأية والروايات التي تناولت تفسيرها... أما الفصل الثاني فهو: دراسة في الآية (30)، من سورة الروم ويتناول بالدراسة قوله تعالى "فأقم وجهك للدين حنيفاً فطرة الله التي فطر الناس عليها لا تبديل لخلق الله..." والآراء الواردة في كل مفردة من مفرداتها. أما الفصل الثالث فيسلط الضوء على ثلاث آيات من سورة آل عمران وهي الآي/19، 85، 39. وتفسيراتها. ويبحث الفصل الرابع في: عقيدة شهداء الأخدود، وهو دراسة في قوله تعالى: "لقد كان في قصصهم عبرة لأولي الألباب ما كان حديثاً يفترى، ولكن تصديق الذي بين يديه وتفصيل كل شيء..." وفيه تبيان وتفسير للآراء الواردة فيها وهي: أنهم مؤمنون، أنهم مسلمين، انهم اتباع بني من الأنبياء، أنهم أنصارى، أنهم مجوس. ويأتي الفصل الخامس والأخير ليتناول: عقيدة شهداء الكهف، وهي دراسة في سورة الكهف، عدد آياتها (113) أيه، تدور حول شهداء الكهف وأدلة اسلامهم وإيمانهم كما جاء في القرآن والأحاديث الواردة والروايات الصحيحة...
