هذا كتابٌ ماتعٌ حقاً، وقيّمٌ في بابه، فقد جمع فيه مؤلفه على ترتيب الأحرف ألقابَ مجموعة من الأسر التي كان للقبها سببٌ وسرى هذا السبب في عَقِبِ تلك الأسرة، فيذكرُ المؤلف سبب التلقيب، موثقاً له من مصدره، كاشفاً عمّا قد يكون في ذلك من أوهام، أو يدع العهدة على الناقل، مع التحرّي في النقل، والدقة في الأداء.
كما نثر في كتابه هذا الكثير من الفوائد النسّبية، والدقائق التاريخية، ملتزماً المنهج العلمي في النقل والبحث، ونيّفت الألقاب المذكورة في هذا الكتاب على الألف لقب، كان جمعُها حصيلة زمانٍ طويل من البحث والتنقيب وتقييد الشوارد، ومن أنفَس ما فيه الفوائد المنقولة شفاهاً عن بعض أصحاب تلك الأسَر، وهي مادةٌ لا توجد في كتابٍ أصلاً، وقد جاء ذلك الجهد المبارك مجمُوعاً محرَّراً في هذا السِّفر البديع.
