اختار الإمام الجليل محي الدين أبو زكريا يحيى بن شرف الدين النووي باقة من الأحاديث النبوية في مواضيع عديدة في كتاب سماه "رياض الصالحين"، ضمنه نحو ألفي حديث اختارخا من كتب الصحاح والكتب المعتمدة في السنة المطهرة، فجاء كتاباً مباركاً تناوله الناس بالقبول والإقبال عليه، كيف لا وهو من ذخائر السنة المشرفة ومن هدي النبوة، فكان له تأثيره البالغ في نفوس الناس في الإصلاح والتوجيه والأخلاق مما زاد الإقبال عليه وعلى دراسته، وقلما يخلو بيت مسلم من هذا الكتاب، كما عكف الدارسون في المعاهد على تقريره ودراسته، وقد شرحه الإمام محمد بن علان في ثمانية أجزاء في كتابه الذي سماه "دليل الفالحين"، وكان شرحه مؤدياً لحاجة عصره وموفياً إياه، وقد لمس كل من المحقق الماسة إلى شرحه شرحاً مدرسياً مناسباً لمقتضيات الظروف الاجتماعية الراهنة، والأساليب التربوية المعاصرة، وخاصة للمعنيين بشرون التربية والتعليم والتوجيه على جميع المستويات، فعقدوا العزم على القيام بهذا العمل خدمة للمسلمين، وتسهيلاً على الدارسين، ليعم الانتفاع بهذا الكتاب وليقف الناس على كنوز السنة النبوية المطهرة.
كما قاموا بشرح الكتاب مراعين الأمور الآتية: أولاً: نزع الآيات الكريمة التي أوردها الإمام النووي في أول كل باب، وشرحنا مفرداتها اللغوية.
ثانياً: ذكروا عقب كل حديث المرجع والمصدر من الكتاب والباب من كتب السنة التي ورد فيها الحديث.
ثالثاً: أفردوا شرح المفردات اللغوية لكل حديث وأعقبوه بعد تخريج الحديث مباشرة.
رابعاً: جمعوا الفوائد التي تضمنها الحديث وربطناها بواقع الحياة، وبينوا الأحكام المستنبطة منه بأسلوب سهل، ليقف القارئ على فوائد الحديثن والحض على التأسي والقدوة بما جاء فيه من فضائل وإرشادات وتوجيهات والتحذير مما نهى عنه الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم.
خامساً: جعلوا لكل حديث رقمين: الأول في الأعلى يشير إلى رقمه المتسلسل في الباب الذي ورد فيه، والرقم في الأسفل هو رقمه المتسلسل في الكتاب، وذلك تسهيلاً للرجوع إليه أو الإحالة عليه.
سادساً: وتتمياً للفائدة فقد جمعوا تراجم الرواة وجعلوا قسماً مستقلاً في آخر الكتاب مرتبة حسب حروف المعجم.
سابعاً: وختموا علمهم بوضع فهرس للكتاب بأوائل الأحاديث، لتهسيل الرجوع إلى الحديث في موضعه من الكتاب.
