كان اختياري للمقالات المترجمة في هذا الكتاب نابعاً من أهميّة القضيّة الّتي عالجها كيركگورد في زمنه والتي لا تزال تمتلك أهميتها، وأعني بها علاقة الدولة بالدين. كنت قد نشرت خمس مقالات فقط من تلك المقالات ونشرتها في كتاب صدر عام 2005، وقد لاقى الكتاب استجابة طيّبة من القرّاء والباحثين على السواء، ولهذا فقد رأيت ضرورة إنجاز ترجمة جميع المقالات الّتي صدرت في مجلته اللحظة، لتوفير الفرصة أمام القرّاء للاطلاع على نسق التطوّر الفكريّ لكيركگورد حتّى أواخر حياته. خصّص كيركگورد أعداد مجلّة "اللحظة"، الّتي كان يصدرها بنفسه ويكتب مقالاتها لوحده كلّيّا لنقد الكنيسة وتدخّل الدولة في الدين ووضع الرهبان ومكانتهم في المجتمع. وكان كيركگورد قد شرع قبل ذلك بتوجيه النقد إلى رئيس الأساقفة القديم ماينستر، وبدأ هذا النقد في البداية خفيّا وغير مباشر في كتابه "تمرين في المسيحيّة" الّذي صدر عام 1850، وقد عرض كيركگورد الكتاب، عند صدوره، على ماينستر، فعلّق عليه بعد قراءته، أنّ "نصفه موجّه ضدّه". تهدف محاولاتي في ترجمة نصوص كيركگورد، على الرّغم من كلّ الصعوبات الّتي يواجهها المترجم، إلى ترسيخ وعي نقديّ للتدّين الزائف المدّعي، وإلى تسهيل قراءة أفكار هذا الفيلسوف الإنسانيّ الّذي بقيت نصوصه ومؤلفاته لعقود بعيدة عن متناول القاريء العربيّ. كما يأمل المترجم أن تكون هذه الترجمات، الّتي سأسعى مستقبلا بإلحاقها بنصوص أخرى، معينا فكريّا ومصدرا معرفيّا للقارئ والباحث على السواء. وهذه الترجمة، باعتقادي، هي الأولى من نوعها الّتي تتمّ مباشرة عن اللغة الدانماركية الأم. فقد تُرجم بعض نصوص كيركگورد سابقا بصورة مشوّشة عن طريق لغة ثالثة.
