يستهدف هذا المؤلف إلقاء الضوء على العلاقة بين المجتمع والظواهر الإجتماعية من جهة، ورسالة الطب والظواهر الطبية والصحية من جهة أخرى. ومن ثم فهو مؤلف في علم الإجتماع الطبي الذي ينتمي بدوره إلى علم الإجتماع العام.
ويقوم هذا المؤلف على فرض مؤداه أن البناء الإجتماعي والبيئة الإجتماعية والثقافية تلعب دوراً هاماً في ظهور الأمراض، وفي علاجها.
وينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى بابين: الباب الأول بعنوان ميادين علم الإجتماع، وهو يتوزع على فصول الفصل الأول يتناول ماهية علم الإجتماع ومواضعيه وفوائده. ويلقى الفصل الثاني الضوء على الظواهر الإجتماعية موضوع علم الإجتماع وخواصها وتصنيفها. ويتناول الفصل الثالث نشأة علم الإجتماع، أما الفصل الرابع فيشير إلى ميادين علم الإجتماع وصلته بالعلوم الإجتماعية الأخرى.
ويتناول الباب الثاني علم الإجتماع الطبي فالفصل الخامس يلقي الضوء على ماهية علم الإجتماع الطبي، وعلاقته بالصحة، ودور رجل الإجتماع الطبي، والدور الإجتماعي للطبيب والممرضة، والعلاقة بين الطبيب والممرضة، وكذلك نشأة علم الإجتماع الطبي. ويتناول الفصل السادس المجتمع والطب.
أما الفصل السابع فقد تناول المجتمعات المحلية والأمراض، بادئاً بالمقصود بالمجتمع المحلي، والفارق بين المجتمع المحلي والحضري والقروي، ثم الحالة الصحية في المناطق المتخلفة في المجتمع الحضري، والمشاكل الصحية في الريف. واختتم هذا الفصل بدور الطبيب والممرضة في المجتمع المحلي.
وتناول الفصل الثامن النظم الإجتماعية والأمراض، ويحمل الفصل التاسع عنواناً هو التنظيم الإجتماعي، والمعايير الإجتماعية والعمليات الإجتماعية والأمراض.
أما الفصل العاشر فقد بين ماهية التغير الإجتماعي والطبقات الإجتماعية وعلاقتها بالصحة، ويلقى الفصل الحادى عشر الضوء على الثقافة والشخصية والأمراض، وتناول الفصل الثاني عشر العوامل البيئية والسكانية والأمراض.
