يسلط هذا الكتاب الضوء على فترة الصراع الصفوي العثماني للفترة (1514-1555م). وتأثيراته على المشرق العربي، ويبدأ الكتاب بنبذة مختصرة عن المشرق العربي، يتبع ذلك عرض للأهمية الإستراتيجية للمشرق العربي مع ذكر القوى السياسية المتمثلة بدولة المماليك، إضافة إلى البرتغال وقوتهم في الخليج العربي والبحر الأحمر، في محاولة لتفسير أسباب توجه العثمانيين للمشرق العربي، والإمتداد الصفوي الفعلي نحو العراق ومحاولات الوصول إلى الشام ومصر.
إلى ذلك، يستعرض الكتاب أسباب الصراع الصفوي العثماني فيلقي الضوء على الأسباب التي أدت إلى تفجير الصراع الصفوي العثماني ومنها: التبني المذهبي لكلا الدولتين ثم محاولة تفنيد الإختلاف بوصفه أحد أسباب الصراع (السني، الشيعي). ما عدا الأسباب السياسية التي لها علاقة بطموح السلاطين والشاهات في التوسع والسيطرة، والرغبة في تزعم العالم الإسلامي. ويعود بالأحداث إلى الوراء لتلمس مراحل الصراع الصفوي العثماني وأهم الأحداث المشتركية بين الطرفين الصفوي العثماني قبيل اندلاع صراعهما، وإطلالة على أعنف الأعمال الحربية في بداية الصراع المتمثلة في (جالديران) التي أدت إلى اجتياح العثمانيين لعاصمة الصفوية "تبريز"، ثم مرحلة الإرتداد العثماني ومعركة "قره غين دده" والصراع على كردستان، وحملة السلطان سليمان القانوني (حرب العراقين) التي أفضت إلى السيطرة العثمانية على العراق، ومروراً بحرب "تخجوان" والإختراق العثماني الثالث لإيران. وانتهاءً بأول معاهدات الصلح بين الطرفين "معاهدة أماسيه" وأهم بنودها ونتائجها. وأخيراً تداعيات الصراع على منطقة المشرق العربي والمحاولات الأوروبية لاستغلال الصراع لصالحهما، ومحاولة تصعيد الصراع والإستفادة منه مع المناقشة والتحليل والنقد.
