برزت ظاهرة الإهتمام بحقوق المرأة وإيلاء مكانتها في المجتمع إهتماماً فائقاً كواحدة من الإفرازات الناجمة عن التطورات الإجتماعية الكبيرة في القرن الاخير.
وقد بلغت أهمية هذا الأمر في العصر الراهن حدّاً جعلته يشكل معياراً لتقييم مدى التقدم أو التخلف الذي تحرزه البلدان وفقاً للمعايير الدولية؛ بل قد يستفاد منه كوسيلة للضغط السياسي على بعض الدول المستقلة أيضاً.
ولا ريب أن مواقف وتوجهات إجتماعية وسياسية كهذه إنما تنحدر من أسس فلسفية ونظريات أخلاقية خاصة، يتنافى جلّها مع المبادئ الدينية والثوابت الإلهية، ولكي يتسنى إتخاذ مواقف مبدئية ثابتة - والقيام بخطوات أساس ومدروسة، وفي سبيل تجنب ردود الأفعال الهزيلة والإنفعالية حيال هذه الظاهرة، لا بد من التصدي لها عن طريق تناول الأبحاث المتصلة بالجنوسة من وجهة نظر الإسلام.
من هذا المنطلق، تأتي هذه الدراسة التي هدفها الرئيسي تحديد مواطن التمايز الجنسي في الإسلام، إعتماداً على أسلوب الإستنباط الفقهي، من جهة، ومن جهة ثانية، تقييم تلك الإختلافات والفوارق وتوجيهها إنطلاقاً من التحليلات الإجتماعية؛ وهكذا اندرجت بحوث المرحلة الأولى أو القسم الأول من هذه الدراسة في دائرة الفقه أو التفسير، وأبحاث المرحلة الثانية أو القسم الثاني منها في حيّز الفلسفة الإجتماعية للجنس.
أما الطريقة في تناول بحوث هذا الكتاب، فهي تتلخص بأن الباحث كان في بداية كل بحث يسعى إلى إعطاء وصف إجمالي عن الواقع الإجتماعي للموضوع المبحوث، وعادة ما كان يشير إلى آراء أنصار الحركة النسوية أو يقوم بتسليط الضوء عليه من ناحية سوسيولوجية، ومن ثم يعمد إلى بحث الرؤية الإسلامية بصورة تفصيلية نوعاً ما.
محيلاً القارئ، وعند الحاجة إلى بحث فقهي في بعض الموارد، إلى الملاحق المذكورة آخر الكتاب، وختاماً يصار إلى دراسة رؤية الإسلام من منظور العلوم الإجتماعية، وقد لجأ الباحث إلى ذكر نصوص الآيات والروايات النافعة في الإستدلال، ليتمكن الباحثون من الرجوع مباشرة إلى المصادر اللازمة في هذا المجال.
