تطورت المدرسة في العصر الحديث حتى أصبحت تكنولوجيا الاتصالات والمعلومات بعالمها الافتراضي هي إحدى بيئات التعلم فيما يسمى بمدرسة المستقبل، حيث إن مصطلح مدرسة المستقبل أو المدرسة الالكترونية أو المدرسة الذكية أو مدرسة بلا أسوار، قد ارتبط بالتقدم التكنولوجي المتصاعد القائم على تقنية الحاسب الآلي وما يتصل به من برامج ووسائل اتصال وأسطوانات ممغنطة تحوي شتى أنواع المعرفة والمعلومات. ومع التوسع في استخدام تكنولوجيا المعلومات من خلال الوسيط الالكتروني، وانتشار استخدام شبكات الانترنت للوصول إلى محتويات ملفاتها ومواقعها من معلومات، أصبحت فكرة مدرسة المستقبل من الأفكار التي حظيت بالقبول الواسع في المجتمعات المتقدمة، تبعتها المجتمعات النامية في محاولة للحاق بالركب واكتساب المعرفة.
وهذه الدراسة محاولة لتسليط الضوء على بعض الجوانب التي قد تساعد في جلاء الرؤية ووضوحها حول مدرسة المستقبل، وتشكل مع بعض الدراسات الأخرى محاولة لتشكيل رأي علمي حول مدرسة المستقبل يستند إلى فلسفة صحيحة، وذلك بدراسة خبرات بعض الدول حول فلسفة مدرسة المستقبل وتطبيقها، ودراسة المتغيرات الداخلية والدولية المؤثرة فيها، من خلال التعرض لواقع إدارة المدرسة الثانوية، ومحاولة تطويرها في ضوء مدرسة المستقبل.
