الكتابُ الذي أضع بين يدي القارئ العربيّ ترجمتَه هذه، حصيلةُ جهدٍ لم تعرف باذلتُه الكلَل، فقد أمضت مؤلّفةُ الكتاب الأستاذة أنّيماري شيمل ما ينوف على أربعين سنةً في الاطّلاع على مصادر الثقافة الإسلامية وينابيعها الأصيلة فوقَ رقعة تمتدّ من طنجة إلى جاكرتا، وبألسنة ولغاتٍ تربو على العشر: العربيّة والفارسيّة والتّركيّة والبشتويّة والأوردية والسّنديّة والبنجابيّة والسّواحليّة…، مضيفةً إلى ذلك اطّلاعاً على بحوث وكتب حول هذه الثقافة بالألمانية والإنكليزية والفرنسية والإيطاليّة والإسبانية والرّوسيّة واليابانيّة..، وزياراتٍ إلى بلاد المسلمين استغرقت منها سنواتٍ طويلة.
وقد جعلت الأستاذةُ شيمل عنوانَ كتابها في نشرته الإنكليزية التي اعتمدناها: And Muhammad Is His Messenger The Veneration of the Prophet in Islamic Piety أي: وأنّ محمّداً رسولُ الله تبجيل النّبيّ في التديّن الإسلاميّ
وتقول المؤلفةُ في مقدّمتها لهذا الكتاب: «هذا الكتابُ هو الثّمرةُ للاهتمام بشخصيّة نبيّ الإسلام؛ الذي تطوّر على امتداد ما يربو على أربعة عقود». وتشير إلى إفادتها الكبيرة في إعداده من مؤلَّفات حديثة ممتازة في هذا الشأن، لكنّ الذي أثّر فيها أكثر من ذلك هو التبجيلُ الشّعبيّ للنّبيّ محمّد عليه الصّلاةُ والسلام الذي لاحظته لدى المسلمين الأتراك في السّنوات الخمس التي أمضتها في جامعة أَنقرة أستاذةً للدّين المقارن في كليّة الإلهيّات الإسلاميّة. وقد أضافت إلى ذلك اهتماماً معمَّقاً بالتأليف الشّعريّ والصّوفيّ في شبه القارّة الهنديّة – الباكستانيّة. / عيسى علي العاكوب
