"إرشاد السالك" الذي جار في هذا الكتاب شرحه هو للإمام عبد الرحمن بن عسكر شهاب الدين البغدادي المالكي. كان فقيهاً عالماً زاهداً، وله تآلف حسنة فيها كتاب الإرشاد وهو القرن الذي جاء حوله هذا الشرح، ألفه المصنف في مسائل الفقه على قواعد مذهب الإمام مالك حيث اجتهد في كتابه هذا غاية الاجتهاد في استنباط المآرب فأودع فيه جميع ما يحتاج إليه في الدين من المأمورات والمحظورات، وكيفية أداء العبادة، وبيان أحكام الصلاة من الفرائض والسنن والمرغوبات، وأحكام الطهارة، والزكاة، والصيام، والحج، والجهاد، والإيمان، والنكاح، والبيوع والقضايا في الدماء والحدود، والشهادات وأحكام الميراث والعنف والولاء، والوصايا، وغير ذلك مما يتعلق بأحكام الشريعة الإسلامية مما لا غنى عنه.
وقد بين المصنف جميع ذلك تفصيلاً وإجمالاً بدون تفريط ولا إفراط، أودع جميع ذلك لنع المسلمين، ولأهمية هذا الكتاب فقد وضع له هذا الشرح الذي عدد من خلاله الشارح إلى حل الألفاظ، وتقريب المعنى ليكون في تناول الدارس والطالب والداني فهمه وإدراك معانيه، والوقوف على مسائل الفقه وأبوابه على المذهب المالكي.
