تركت لنا المدرسة العراقية المالكية عددًا من الكتب الفقهية المهمة التي كان لها أكبر الأثر في التقعيد والتأصيل لمسائل المذهب، ومن هذه الكتب المهمة كتاب "إرشاد السالك إلى فقه الإمام مالك" الذي صاغه العلامة الفقيه شيخ المالكية ببغداد ومدرس المدرسة المستنصرية: عبد الرحمن بن عسكر البغدادي المتوفى سنة (732هـ) الذي احتوى- على صغر حجمه- كثيرًا من الأحكام الفقهية من عبادات ومعاملات على مذهب مالك، واستوعب فيه معظم مسائل المذهب التي لا توجد إلا في المطولات من الكتب والكبار، وقد عكف جمع من أئمة المذهب المتأخرين كزروق والحطاب والخرشي والعدوي في الاحتجاج به، والنقل عنه، وأفرد بعضهم كتبًا لشرحه كزروق والقاضي بهرام والتتتائي مما يدلنا على أهميته، وتبوئه مكانة مرموقة بين كتب المذهب المالكي.
ولذا اجتهدت في تحقيقه على نسخة خطية موثقة والتعليق عليه، وجعلت معه كتاب "الإسعاد في مشكل الإرشاد".
