أورد المؤلف في هذا الكتاب المسمّى بـ: "أصدق الأخبار في قصّة الأخذ بالثأر" خلاصة ما ذكره المؤرخون والمحدّثون من أخبار الذين طلبوا بدم الحسين بن عليّ بن أبي طالب عليه السلام، وتتبعوا قاتليه حتى قتلوهم وشفوا النفوس منهم، وظهر بذلك تصديق قول الحسين عليه السلام في الدعاء على أهل الكوفة الذين حاربوه: "وسلّط عليهم غلام ثقيف، يسقيهم كأساً مصبّرة، ولا يدع فيهم أحداً إلا قتله، قتلة بقتلة؛ وضربة بضربة، ينتقم لي ولأوليائي وأهل بيتي وأشيائي منهم".
