"المسيحيون العرب"، هل نحن أمام مشكلة، أم أمام أحد التعبيرات عن واقع المجتمع العربي في أزمنة الراهنة؟ هذا الكتاب، الذي هو عبارة عن سلسلة من المحاضرات قامت بتنظيمها "دار الفن والأدب"، خلال شهري آذار ونيسان من عام1981، وعقدت في بيروت، هو مساهمة تعكس القلق.
وتحاول أن تقرح مداخل إلى حلول ممكنة: لكن الأساسي الذي يقدمه هذه الكتاب، هو في تأكيده على حقيقة كاد غبار الحرب الأهلية الطويلة في لبنان أن يحجبها، وهي أن المسيحية هي جزء عضوي من الواقع الاجتماعي والثقافي العربي والإسلامي، وهي بالتالي لا تستطيع الانفصال عنه، وإلا فقدت هويتها وتميزها.
ويأتي هذا الكتاب، كمساهمة جديدة في سلسلة المساهمات العربية الحديثة، من أجل البحث في الواقع، وتحليله بشكل علمي، كان أبرزها مساهمات الأب وكيم مبارك والأب ميشال الحايك والمطران جورج خضر، والأب جان كوربون، وآخرون، ممن حاولوا دراسة الوحدة الثقافية في تعبيراتها المختلفة، وفي وجهها المسيحي. والأهم من ذلك، هو أن هذا الكتاب يقدم عينة عن حوار مسيحي-إسلامي ممكن، حوار عقلانى يحترم في الآخر عقيدته ووجوده، ويسعى إلى البحث عن نقاط الوحدة.
