باتت الوضعية المسيحية في العالم العربي غير مستقرة، وفي قطر أو أكثر، باتت مأسوية. وأضحت مشكلات الحضور المسيحي والحضور العربي العام هو الخواء الفظيع في التجربة السياسية العربية طوال العقود الأربعة الماضية، وهو انسداد نال من الحراك السياسي والاقتصادي والاجتماعي كما نال من فكرة الدولة حضوراً وممارسة. ولا شك في أن الأكثريات العربية انكسرت تحت وطأته، وعانت، ولا تزال معاناتها شديدة، وربما صمد المسيحيون العرب تحت تلك الورطة الانسدادية أكثر مما صمدت نخب الأكثرية، ولكن في النهاية ومنذ الثمانينيات من القرن الماضي ظهر الانكسار لدى النخب المسيحية العربية.
ضمن هذه الدوامة تراجع الحضور المسيحي في المنطقة إلى ربع ما كان عليه قبل ربع قرن (ثلاثة ملايين هاجروا) وباتت الهجرة هي الخلاص من التهميش وهدر حقوق المواطنة والقتل».
يتناول الكتاب الحراك الوظيفي والتجاري للمسيحيين في العهود الإسلامية والأخوة المسيحية- الإسلامية والعيش المشترك، إلى جانب الكثير من القضايا منها: «المسيحيون من الأكثرية إلى الأقلية»، «إشكالية العلاقة المسيحية- الإسلامية»، «الهروب من الحاضر إلى الماضي»، «مسيحيو العراق من النهوض إلى التلاشي» «مسيحيو مصر» حيث يضع الكاتب تلك القضايا في سياقات تاريخية وسياسية اجتماعية ومناقشتها وتحليلها من الواقع، مورداً الكثير من الإحصائيات والأرقام في قراءات شتى، مشيراً إلى مفاهيم الدولة العصرية والحقوق والثقافة والقيم والانتماء.
