استهدف هذا العمل تقديم العون للطلاب المتخصصين من المطالعين في الأدبيات الإنجليزية، في مجالات علوم المكتبات والمعلومات، من خلال عرض المصطلحات، وأحدثها في ذلك المجال، باللغة الإنجليزية، وتقديم ما يقابلها باللغة العربية، مع شروح موجزة لها، بما يعين على توضيحها وسهولة فهمها.
وقد استطاع المؤلف معاينة معظم المعاجم الصادرة من الوطن العربي ورأى أن كل تلك المعاجم تكاد أن تكون مستنسخة عن بعضها، بإستثناء قاموس مصطلحات الوثائق والأرشيف لسلوى ميلاد، والموسوعة العربية لمصطلحات علوم المكتبات والمعلومات والحاسبات، للشامي وحسب الله، وإلى حد ما، معجم عبد المعطي ولشر.
ويؤكد صاحب هذا المعجم، الذي بين يدي القارئ الكريم، أن ما يقرب من تسعين في المئة، من متن معجمه لم يرد في متون كل المعاجم العربية، التي وقع عليها، وأن كل المصطلحات والمفاهيم الخاصة بالمكتبات والنشر وصناعة المعلومات والكشافات والببلوغرافيات ذات العلاقة بالعدو الصهيوني والمنظمات الصهيونية واليهودية، ترد لأول مرة، في مرجع، باللغة العربية.
وعليه، فإن هذا المؤلَّف يعد مرجعاً توثيقياً خدمة لطلبة العلم والمتخصصين العرب، في علوم المكتبات والمعلومات والتوثيق والأرشيف وشبكات المعلومات وقواعدها الآلية، وخدمة للغة أمة العرب.
