الظروف السياحية التي تمر بها السياحة الخليجية الخارجية، والتي ستكون مؤهلة اليوم أكثر من أي وقت مضى بتحويل مساراتها باتجاه السلطنة خاصة إذا علمنا أن حجم ما ينفعه السعوديون على السياحة الخارجية حوالي 3.26 مليار ريال عماني. والسلطنة مهيئة لاستقطاب 90% من السياحة الخارجية الخليجية، بإضافة إلى تيار سياحي من قارات أخرى.
مع العلم أن السلطنة تحصل اليوم على نسبه متواضعة من إجمالي الحركة السياحية الخليجية. على الرغم من أنها مهيئة كلياً لأن تكون قبلة السواح الجليجيين ولا سيما في فصل الصيف إذ تمتلك إقليمين سياحيين ومؤهلين مناخياً. إذ يسود في أولهما مناخ معتدل مع أمطار صيفية وغطاء نباتي كثيف يشرح الصدر وهي (ظفار). أما الثانية فيسود فيها مناخ معتدل ودرجات حرارة منخفضة نسبياً وهواء عليل. وذلك في (الجبل الأخضر)، هذان الإقليمان سيكونان ملاذاً للسواح في منطقة تحترق بهجير الصحراء.
فهذان الإقليمان والمواقع السياحية والأثرية تشكل بمجملها منظومة سياحية بديعة ومتنوعة، تعكس تنوعاً واسعأً في لوحة فنية خلقت صورها الطبيعية فتعددت أشكالها واختلطت مع إبداعات الإنسان العماني ستكون محط أنظار السواح إذا تم استثمارها بشكل كامل.
وفي هذا الكتاب يسلط الضوء على واقع السياحة العمانية ومعطياتها البيئية والبشرية المتنوعة، وإعطاء عوامل ازدهارها في عدة فصول كان الفصل الأول والثاني يمثل مفاهيم عامة عن السياحة والجغرافية السياحية. أما الفصل الثالث فركز على المقومات السياحية الطبيعية وشمل الفصل الرابع المقومات البشرية. أما الخامس فتناول السياحة الثقافية، وتناول السادس الرياضات العمانية وسياحة المؤتمرات ورجال الأعمال وأخيراً تناول الفصل السابع عوامل ازدهار السياحة العمانية ونقاط ضعفها.
