لماذا كان هذا الكتاب؟
لعدم وجود دراسة وافية تؤرخ للفنون النثرية، في منطقة عسير، في العهد السعودي، باستثناء دراسات تركّز على النشأة الأولى، وتتوقف عند سنة 1380ه .
ولأن أكثر الدراسات المتعلقة بالأدب في السعودية، لم تظهر اهتماماً بالأدب في منطقة عسير، إلا من خلال إشارات يسيرة جداً.
ولأن النتاج الأدبي في هذه المنطقة، يمتاز عن غيره، بسمات موضوعية فرضتها البيئة، وسمات لغوية ناجمة عن لغة الأهلين، وهي علامات فارقة لا توجد في أدب المناطق السعودية الأخرى، وخلاصة ذلك: وضوح أثر المكان في الأعمال القصصية، والروائية، والسيرية، والمقالية.
ولأن هذه الدراسة، ستفتح الأبواب أمام دراسات نقدية جزئية، تكشف عن الفروق الفنية بين الأجيال الأدبية في هذه الجهات، وترصد الخصائص الفنية، والظواهر الموضوعية.
