يحتاج المتخصصون عادة إلى لغة مشتركة لتحقيق قدر كاف من الفهم فى مجال العلم وعلاقته بالعلوم الأخرى وأساليب البحث فيه, وهو أمر يؤدى إلى إثراء هذا العلم وتزايد تراكماته يوما بعد يوما, ومن ثم يمكن القول بأن تأصيل العلم والبحث فيه, وما ينتج عنه من تراكمات هو حصيلة هذه اللغة المشتركة وذلك القدر المشترك من الفهم.
وقد أدى التباين فى استخدام المصطلحات- بين المتخصصين- إلى الحد من إثراء هذا العلم وتعطيل التطور فى مجاله. ويعد مجال المناهج وطرق التدريس من المجالات التى ظهر التباين فى استخدام المصطلح الواحد بين المتخصصين, وعدم تكوين فكر مشترك ناتج عن قدر مشترك من الفهم فيما بينهم, ولذا سوف نحاول فى هذا المعجم- ومن خلال قوائم المصطلحات المقدمة فيه- السعى إلى تكوين فكر مشترك فى مجال المناهج وطرق التدريس, حيث يتم عرض المصطلحات المتفق عليها وذات المعانى المحددة, توحيدا لأسس الانطلاق الفكرى من أجل بناء هذا العلم فى إطار عربى, له أصوله وفلسفته ولغته ومفاهيمه الثابتة المتفق عليها.
وبناء على ذلك.. فقد وضعنا عدة اعتبارات انطلقنا منها فى إعدادنا لهذا المعجم وهى أن هذه القائمة بالمصطلحات لا تمثل كافة المصطلحات فى هذا المجال, إذ أنه ليس من اليسير القيام بحصر كافة المصطلحات فى فترة زمنية محددة, وأن هذه القائمة قد راعت استخدام المصطلحات وتحديد معانيها فى الدول العربية, والمنظمات الدولية المختلفة, مما جعلها مستندة إلى أسس علمية راسخة, وقد حاولنا فيها عدم الاكتفاء بذكر المصطلح ومعناه ولكنا ذهبنا إلى ماهو أبعد من ذلك, فآثرنا تقديم تعريف تفصيلى لكل مصطلح مع بيان وظيفته واستخدامه.
