إنَّ العبادات الّتي اوجبها الله تعالی علی عباده أو استحبها تتوقف علی الاستطاعة بمعناها العام والخاص، لأنَّ أداء التكليف الالهي يتوقف عليها بصورتها الخاصة، و الله سبحانه وتعالی لم يُجبر عباده بعمل لا يقدرون عليه، ... وإذا توفرت شروط أخرى غير الاستطاعة فلا يتوجّه التكليف إلی أحد من المكلّفين ومن المعلوم ان الاستطاعة لا تنحصر في جهة دون أُخرى بل ولها جهات عديدة وجوانب مُختلفة من القدرات والطاقات المادّية والمعنوية وفي صورة عدم توّفر أحد فيها يسقط التكليف علنياً في جانب آخر أي في صورة توفّرها جميعاً يجب الامتثال لما أوجبه الرب الرحيم ويستحب الاتيان بما استحبّه الخالق الكريم، فمن باب المثال من كان قادراً علی أداء الواجب بالقدرة الجسمانية ولكن يعرض عليه مانع في القدرة المالية أو بالعكس فلا يتوجّه إليه التكليف شرعاً.
أمّا المضطر والمكره والمجبور والقاصر والعاجز وغيرهم لهم أحكام خاصّة وتكاليف مخصوصة، فالاستطاعة شرط اساس في العبادات بأجمعها.
