واجب الفرسان الحقيقيين هو سلُّ سيوف الحرب، والنَّظر برعب لأنّهم يعرفون أنّهم سيموتون حين يقذف أعداؤهم النّار والحديد عليهم، معركة أطلّق عليها فيلم أنتج عام 1936 (حيث قاد القتال ضابط إنجليزي أدّى دوره المُمثل إرول فلين Erol Flynn) اسم معركة الستمئة، هل تذكرها؟ بالاكلافا، 25 أكتوبر 1854، في القرم (تحالف إنجليزي، وفرنسي، وتركي ضد الإمبراطوريّة الرّوسيّة).
فرسان لواء لايت بريجادي البريطاني هاجموا أفراد القوّات الرّوسيّة الذين كانت تحميهم مدفعيّة أمامهم، فرسان ركضوا مسافة كيلو مترين في معركة، أطلق عليها شاعر إنجليزي اسم "وادي الموت". - (ألفريد تينيسون، المترجمة).
هذا ما توشك أنت على "النّظر إليه" وقراءته في الصّفحات التّاليّة، حرب تجمع فرساناً متسلّحين بالسّيوف، بجنود يتمتّعون بمكانة وعتاد أفضل في المعركة، ستُعجب بأولئك الفرسان، فارساً فارساً؛ برشاقتهم، وشجاعتهم، وبسالتهم.
غير أنّهم هنا [في هذه المعركة، عبارة عن] مخلوقات هشّة، مصنوعة من ورق، تشغل إرتفاعاً وعرضاً بسيطاً من سطح المكتب، ولا تنقُصها شجاعة ولا إقدام؛ إنّها كتبٌ وكُتيّبات من القرن العشرين، مُغلّقة بتغليف ورقي رقيق أو سميك، ويتكوّن كلٌّ منها من صفحات قليلة، أو مطويّات مطبوعة من الجانبين؛ قليلة ورفيعة كما هي في صحفات هذا الكتاب الذي توشك على قراءته.
