في "جمرات يارا " يعود ابن مزهر الشادي إلى بغداد، يتتبع ابن مزهر حكايات أمه التي أغرته بهذه العودة ، ليبدأ " أوديسته " الخاصة. تأخذنا الرواية إلى قصة عائلة البطل التي فقد أثرها منذ غادر العراق وهو في أولى مراحل الصبا ، في مغامرة سردية تمزج الواقعي بالأسطوري ، مقدمة لنا نسخة "حميد الربيعي" العراقية من "الواقعية السحرية " ، حيث يفاجئنا السرد طوال الوقت بقصص وحكايات مدهشة .
وأخيرًا نرى من خلال العمل تحولات بغداد وهزاتها الكبرى خلال العقود الأخيرة، عبر صوت سردي مميز لا يخاصم التاريخ ولا يبتغي أن يكون مؤرخًا، وإنما راويًا للقصص.
