إن العلم الحادث بحر زاخر لا يجمع شواطئه إلا نبي مرسل أو ولي مقرب، ولكن الله تعالى جعله كنقطة واحدة يدور في فلكها مسائل جمة، وجعل لهذه النقطة أبوابًا دونها أنواع شتى من العلوم، وكان من هذه الأبواب علم الوضع، فإنه باب ضرب منه بحظ في علوم اللغة وفنون البلاغة وأصول الفقه، وأخذ منه كل صاحب حاشية بطرف، فكان لزامًا على العالم والمتعلم أن يعرف معناه ومسائله ليكون على بصيرة إذا قرأ ما شاع منه في العلوم من مسائل وما دار بسببه في الحواشي من مشكلات.
ولما كانت الرسالة الوضعية العضدية من مشاهير المصنفات في هذا العلم وقد صنف في شرحها مشاهير المحققين كالسيد الشريف وأبي القاسم السمرقندي وعصام الدين الإسفراييني وغيرهم، واختص الشيخ محمد البهوتي الخلوتي من بين آخرين بنظمها نظمًا بديعًا جمع به معانيها بألفاظ سهلة الحفظ، ثم إنه شرح هذا النظم شرحًا اعتنى فيه بالرجوع إلى الأصل وشروح المحققين عليه، لما كان هذا رأيت أن أقوم بتحقيق شرح هذا النظم، لعل هذا ينبه لأهمية هذا الباب من العلوم ويلفت النظر إلى وجوب إحاطة العالم وطالب العلم بأنواع الفنون ليصل إلى أدنى ما يكون إلى النقطة التي تسير في فلكها مسائل العلم.
