يحمل هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه سيرة الشيخ أبو علي يوسف بردويل أبو رسلان. بدأ حياته ناسكاً متصوفاً في خلوة الشقيف -في البرية- في رأس المتن، وأنهى السنوات الخمس الأخيرة من عمره زاهداً متعبداً في صومعة صخرية في البرية في بغقلين.
وبين البداية والنهاية رحلة امتدت حوالي أربعة عقود من السنوات العامرة بالمسؤوليات الدينية كان الشيخ خلالها قدوة المدققين والمحققين في أمور الدين حيث اختير بالاجماع ليكون أول شيخ مشايخ في خلوات البياضة، والمسؤول الأعلى عن تنظيم إدارة شؤون الخلوات ومجلسها.
وبعدها عين شيخ عقل للطائفة الدرزية، فقام بأعباء المنصب على أكمل وجه، وواجه الأمير بشير الشهابي الثاني وعارض سياسته البغيضة في شرذمة الطائفة الدرزية والقضاء على زعمائها ومصادرة أملاكهم الأمر الذي جعل الأمير بشير يصدر حكماً بإعدامه. لكن العناية الإلهية تدخلت فحدثت المعجزة وتراجع الأمير عن تنفيذ الحكم واستبدله بوضع الشيخ تحت الإقامة الجبرية.
وبالعودة لمتن الكتاب نجده قد قسم إلى عدة فصول اندرج تحتها هذه العناوين: الفصل الأول: عائلته ونسبه، الفصل الثاني: الشيخ والخلوات، الفصل الثالث: شيخ العقل، الفصل الرابع: الأمير بشير والشيخ المعارض، الفصل الخامس: الحكم، الفصل السادس: النهاية والوصية. وفي آخر الكتاب بسط للملاحق والمراجع. لقد أجاد الباحث في سرده للوقائع التاريخية، واستقاها بدقة من مظانها، فكان بحثه بعيداً عن كل هوى أو ميلن اعتمد فيه الأسلوب الهادئ الرصين في عرض للوقائع أو في ذكر سيرة الشيخ التي أولع بها الأستاذ فؤاد منذ صغره.
