للإطّلاع على طبيعة فكر بيير بايل وشغفه اللاّمحدود بالتّناقض، وجرأته الفكريّة المثيرة للإنتباه، التي لا تهاب رياح الأسئلة ولا ترعوي عن طرح الإعتراضات.
لمعرفة أسباب دفاع بيير بايل المستميت عن حضور تناقض يستحيل تجاوزه بين العقل والعقيدة، ومسوّغات إصراره على بيان عبثيّة مبادئ الدّيانة المسيحيّة وتعاليمها مقارنة بمبادئ العقل وقواعده.

لمزيد الكشف عن فلسفة عقلانيّة متينة صاغها فكر ليبنتز (عبر ردوده غير المباشرة في كتاب الإلهيّات على إعتراضات بايل) دافعت بما أوتيت من براهين عن توافق ضروريّ بين العقل والعقيدة، واعترضت بما أوتيت من صرامة فكريّة على موقف بيير بايل الرّيبيّ الذي أعلن عن عجز العقل الجذري عن أن يقرّر بشكل نهائيّ عن حقيقة ما، وهذا ما جعله يصبّ في صالح شكوكيّة عمّقت من هوّة الإلتباس، وزعزعت أسس اللّاهو العقلاني عبر تأبيدها للجدل والإعتراضات، وانتهت إلى الإعلان عن عدم ملاءمة العقيدة للعقل، وضرورة الإحتماء بإيمانيّة مفترضة يُلتَجأ إليها بوصفها مصدر إلهام بديلاً.
